GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR CHESHIRE CLUBS & COACHES

Over the past 6 months swimnorthwest has consulted and worked with clubs and county representatives to develop an exciting club and coach project for Cheshire.

As a result of this work swimnorthwest is delighted to introduce Jo John as the newly appointed County Swimming Club and Coach Consultant for Cheshire.

The role, which is funded by Sport England for a period of three years, is designed to create links between teaching, skill, competitive development and performance clubs in Cheshire and the Northwest region, to create a clear Swimmer Pathway linked to the Long Term Athlete Development and Swim21.

Jo (in partnership with the ASA Regional Education Officer – Jenny Baxter) is committed to visiting and liaising with coaches in their county to co-ordinate a mentoring and coach education programme that meets their own individual needs.  She will work directly with coaches to ensure that Cheshire has an effective training programme to enable coaches and swimmers to achieve their true potential.  In addition to identifying and delivering training and organising workshops, Jo will work on poolside with coaches and swimmers in home programmes, at County Training Camps and at Competitions.

The key aim of the project is to provide an environment within the County in which all competitive swimmers will have the opportunity to train and be trained; enabling them to realise their full potential in line with their commitment, and provide all swimmers with the opportunity to compete at the highest level in line with their ability and desire.

Jo will work closely with you all, promoting and explaining the principles of Long Term Athlete Development; which is about achieving optimal training, competition and recovery throughout a swimmer’s career.

Jo will ensure that clubs are able to concentrate on their strengths and she will identify the expertise that is in the County to ensure that clubs work together to utilise the knowledge and skills of our coaches to achieve the optimum for our swimmers.

Jo hopes to start the role in December and during the initial months of the project will organise an open coaching meeting and arrange personal visits to your club programmes.

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to develop as a coach and support the development of your club and its swimmers.
