Schools Squash Event Proves a “SMASH HIT”
England Squash Star Vicky Botwright was guest of honour for the first ever “UK Carline North West High Schools Squash Tournament” held at the National Squash Centre at Sportcity Manchester on the 11 July.
Organiser John Gibson, the Area Squash Manager NW described the tournament, for which the Manchester Evening News was the official media partner, as a “Great Success”.
In the Girls Under 15 final West Kirby Girls Grammar from Merseyside beat Bolton School for Girls from Lancashire 3 - 2 whilst in Boys Under 15 Final, St Monica’s High School from Manchester beat Caldey Boys Grammar from Merseyside 5 – 0.
Vicky Botwright, England’s Number One Player, World Ranked Number 5 who comes from Manchester, and was a member of England’s winning team in last year’s World Team Championships, presented the prizes. Vicky despite her tight training schedule also took time to coach some of the youngsters.
Quote of the day from one of the youngsters “To play on the Glass Back Centre Court” at the National Squash Centre was a dream come true”.
Tournament Organiser, and the Area Squash Manager for the North West, John Gibson said, “ It was a wonderful commitment by UK Carline which I believe will greatly enhance the development of squash for schools in the North West Area”.
