New Initiatives

Single System-Player Pathway

England Hockey are currently changing their player pathway replacing CountySides with Academies which will take place after Christmas and adding an additional tier below Academies, Junior Development Centers which will take place before Christmas. We are currently recruiting Coaches and Managers to run the Centers. All Coaching positions will be paid. If you know anyone who may be interested in coaching or managing at one of the centers please do not hesitate to contact me.

Further information about the new system will be coming out to the network in the form of leaflets over the next month.

We will be setting up trial Centers in March in the Northwich and Macclesfield areas for u12/u13 girls (1996-1997 birthdays). If you have any players who you would like to nominate please contact Charlotte.

Quicksticks

Quicksticks is a brand new game for 7-11 year-olds which has been specifically designed to introduce the sport to teachers and students who have little or no prior knowledge of hockey

The field of play is the size of a standard netball court and a team consists of six players; four outfield pitch players and two ‘officials’ (one manager/coach and one umpire).  All players must rotate with the two official’s roles within the game...there are NO GOALKEEPERS in the game of Quicksticks!  Played in three periods (so that all players have a go at playing, managing and umpiring), one game can last up to 30 minutes for 11 year-olds.  At the lower end of the scale, games can last just over 20 minutes for 7-8 year-olds.

Supported by 49 illustrated Challenge Cards which introduce the game gradually and a full Curriculum Resource which includes six-weeks  worth of lesson plans for the whole Key Stage 2 curriculum, Quicksticks can be played or taught by anyone!  The general philosophy is to have fun whilst learning and developing core skills.
