Beijing Dream over for Anna

Celtic Warrior's Anna Jackson has not been named in the Squad for the Beijing Paralympic Games.  She came back from the 2008 Paralympic World Cup in Manchester with a Bronze medal but unfortunately was not named in the 12 player squad to go to Beijing in September.

Anna has already competed at three European Championships, two World Championships and the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games and was looking forward to taking part in her second Paralympic Games.

She has been training hard at the EPIC Leisure Centre in Ellesmere Port where she works and also at Total Fitness in Chester but unfortunately the hard work did not pay off and she faces the prospect of watching her team mates taking part in the tournament she dreamt of playing at in September.

Anna says  - " I have worked really hard over the last 4 years since the disapointment of not being selected for Athens and thought I was in with a chance for selection - however the coach has made his decision and I have to trust that it was the right one however hard it may be for me". " I intend to work hard over the summer ready for the League season with the Celtic Warriors which starts in September and I believe if I carry on training hard I can be in contention to get back in the GB Team for the 2009 European Championships and 2010 World Championships in Birmingham - and long term my sights are set on London Paralympic Games in 2012"

Anna also said - "I would like to say a big thanks to my basketball Club; the Celtic Warriors , as well as my employers Active8 Leisure and 1074 (Ellesmere Port) Squadron Air Cadets for their patience, understanding and encouragement through the hard training and selection. Also I want to say a special thanks to my physio -  Pam Gardiner of Willaston Physiotherapy Clinic for keeping me fighting fit  "

Originally from Ruthin, Denbighshire,  Anna now lives in Upton, Chester and works for Active8 Leisure Ltd based at the EPIC Leisure Centre in EllesmerePort. She is also a Warrant Officer at 1074 (Ellesmere Port) Squadron Air Cadets and has played Wheelchair Basketball for the Celtic Warriors Basketball club for the last 10 years.
