Chester Swim 21 Success

 

In August 2007 the City of Chester was the latest swimming club in the Cheshire and Warrington area to achieve Swim 21 accreditation. The club’s success saw them become the first club in the region to achieve accreditation at 3 different levels teaching, skill development and competitive development. The club are holding a special presentation demonstration evening on Friday 23rd November in which they are going to receive there certificates. The next regional panel for Swim 21 is on Thursday January 17th with a number of clubs in the area aiming to submit there files.

 

Cheshire Schools Swimming Teachers Training Day - 18th December 2007

 

There was a training day for schools swimming teachers held at the Cheshire Football Association building in the Moss Farm Sports Complex, Northwich. The event took place between 9am and 3.30pm and provided teachers with training on the new Cheshire Safety document (see item below) and also on the new National Plan for Teaching Swimming.

 

The event was a recoginsed ASA course for Continuing Professional Development with a cost of £10 including lunch and refreshments. It also provided teachers with 7 CPD points towards there licence. The latest version of the Safety in Swimming document has been produced by Cheshire County Council. The document provides the guidelines to schools across the county on what is considered to be essential for safe practice in the pool. Aquatics within the Cheshire & Warrington Sports Partnership

 

There are a number of different organisations within the Cheshire and Warrington Sports Partnership who fall under the umbrella of Aquatics. The name Aquatics is a broad term that encompasses all of the swimming disciplines, the key sports involved includes Swimming, Water Polo, Diving and Synchronised Swimming.

 

This section of the website aims to education and inform everyone who is interested in any of the aquatic disciplines what is available within the partnership area. There are links to each of the aquatic disciplines in this section of the site with club location, club information and updates on coach education provided.

 

The skills for these sports can be developed through a number of different activities including mini-polo which is a key sport in the partnership youth games. More information will follow on mini-polo and the other FUNdamental skills at a later date.

 

There are a number of aims for Aquatics within the partnership which are highlighted below:

 

  • To increase the number of young people achieving the Key Stage 2 target of swimming 25 metres.

 

  • To improve the provision of quality coaching programmes, which will support and nurture local athletes to enable them to achieve their full potential.

 

  • An increase in the number of people able to swim well, through Aquamarked Learn To Swim Schemes.

 

  • To develop the number and quality of Teachers and Coaches who are licensed through the ASA.

 

  • To liaise with partners and agencies who deliver aquatic programmes to increase the number of people accessing quality training through continuous  School to Club links.

 

  • An increase in the number of quality, accredited clubs, through Swim 21 (from September 2006 this now includes Water Polo, Diving and Synchronised Swimming).

 

  • Continual monitoring and evaluation of the Regional Swimming Strategy in reference to the Cheshire and Warrington area.

 

  • To increase the awareness of the Long Term Athlete Development through working with Sports Development teams, School Sports Partnerships, local Clubs and Coaches within the Cheshire and Warrington area.

 

  • To work with partners to identify and expand funding streams for Aquatics Development within  the Cheshire and Warrington area.
