Equality Standard

In April 2007 Sport Cheshire received accreditation for Sport England’s Equality standard at foundation level. Through applying at foundation and working towards preliminary level in 2008 the organisation is demonstrating a commitment to engage, unite and motivate people, break down barriers, promote social inclusion and improve health through sport.

All clubs who have achieved Swim 21 accreditation within the Cheshire and Warrington Sports Partnership area have made a commitment to integrating members of all abilities whenever this is possible. The criteria for clubs is that they have shown the ability to demonstrate the following:

  • The club has adopted and communicates to all members the Amateur Swimming Association approved Equity Policy.
  • The club has completed a self assessment to ensure it meets the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA)
  • Lead Teachers / Coaches and a current member of the Club’s management committee have undertaken an Amateur Swimming Association approved equity course.
  • The club works in partnership with local disability organisations.
  • Structures are in place to include disabled swimmers.

The swimming clubs within the Cheshire & Warrington area who have achieved Swim 21 accreditation are:

  • City of Chester SC (Teaching, Skill Development & Competitive Development)
  • Crewe Flyers SC (Teaching)
  • Ellesmere Port ASC (Teaching & Skill Development)
  • Warrington SC (Teaching)
  • Winsford SC (Competitive Development)

Included within this disability swimming page is information on specialist disability swimming clubs in the area. There are also athlete profiles on Stuart Bloor and Harriette Milne who are nationally and internationally recognised athletes within the Cheshire and Warrington area.
