Sport Makers

This year anyone can be a sporting hero -

Whether it's planning the route, finding the pitch or encouraging people to take part - sport doesn't just happen, it needs people to make it happen. Become one of 40,00 Sport Makers and you'll not only get the skills, knowledge and opportunities you need to get more people playing sport, you'll become part of the games legacy.

What is Sport Makers?

The Sport Makers programme is part of the People strand of Sport England's Mass Participation Legacy programme Places People Play which was announced on Monday 15th November 2010.

This project will use the inspirational pull of London 2012 to recruit, train and deploy 40,000 new sports volunteers aged 16 years and over to make sport happen across the country. Volunteers will have a positive and inspiring introduction to the world of sport volunteering via a series of workshops delivered locally by a training provider and in conjunction with Sport Cheshire. We anticipate that many will continue to give of their time, further increasing sport participation long after the 2012 Games are held in the UK.

The national aim is to ensure that 50,000 potential volunteers attend inspirational workshops, with 40,000 of these being deployed into a sports leadership role for a minimum of 10 hours of volunteering.
