The role of Cheshire & Warrington Sports Partnership

Sport Cheshire, actingon behalf of Cheshire & Warrington Sports Partnership, promotes the safety and welfare of children and young people engaged in sporting activities locally. Sport Cheshire aims to contribute to safeguarding children and young people by implementing and demonstrating best safeguarding practice when staff, volunteers or others are providing services, activities and programmes for children and young people. To minimise the possibility of abuse to those people at risk in sporting environments, Sport Cheshire is committed to working in partnership with all agencies to ensure that information and training opportunities are available for coaches, staff and volunteers to guide them in best practice when working with all children, young people and vulnerable adults.
We've attained Advanced Standard Status
Sport Cheshire is delighted to announce that it has achieved the Advanced Standard for Safeguarding and Protecting Children in Sport. As part of our commitment to children and young people in sport and physical activity we developed the CWSP Safeguarding Policy (The power of sport in Safeguarding Children and young people) and supporting resources.
The Standards provide a national benchmark of good practice to work towards. They raise awareness and help organisations know what they need to do to protect children involved in sport and to minimise avoidable risks. When implemented fully they should provide parents with increased confidence and peace of mind. Most important of all, they should help create safer environments for children, where they can enjoy and get the very best from their involvement in sport. The standards:
- Help create a safe sporting environment for children and young people and protect them from harm
- Provide a benchmark to assist those involved in sport to make informed decisions
- Promote good practice and challenge practice that is harmful to children.
Sport Cheshire works with Local Authorities, NGBs of Sport, Local Safeguarding Childrens Boards and Educational Services to ensure that safuguards against harm are in place for sports activities, and signposts any referrals.
As part of our commitment to safeguarding children and young people in sport, we make all our documentation and guidance available to the public and to sporting organisations.
