Commonwealth Games Gold medalist Courtney has been helping to engage students in boxing and build up their fitness through Cheshire East Council’s Sport Unlimited Programme.
The eight week sessions have targeted students who don’t normally participate in sport from different courses through the college’s enrichment programme.
Enrichment enables students to try up to 60 different activities in addition to their day-to-day college courses which range from jewellery making and music to Spanish and sport.
Courtney has been putting the group through their paces and teaching them key boxing moves and manoeuvres, including how to punch, during the hour-long sessions in the College’s sports hall.
Courtney said: “I wasn’t too sure what to expect when I first came to the college because I was working with a number of students that hadn’t tried boxing before but I’ve been extremely impressed.

Many of the students who had no previous experience of boxing have gone from strength-to-strength in the sport and are looking to join boxing clubs locally and participate outside college.
