Manchester University - Performance Centre

Manchester University has recently been leading a consortium including Manchester City Council, ManchesterMetropolitanUniversity and several Hockey Clubs looking to bring a National Hockey Performance Centre to the city and would effectively be a regional centre of excellence for the North West. The centre would operate from existing facilities at Belle Vue Bowden Hockey Club with the employment of a Performance Coach to operate the programme of activities.

England Hockey have assessed the application and advised that whilst the bid is strong in many areas, links need to be developed with a wider network of clubs in order to make best use of the opportunity.

As a result awareness of the bid that has been submitted is trying to be raised, as well as the benefits it can bring to clubs in the region and ultimately to gain their support via the linked document towards the final submission and assessment in May.

Having had limited response to an invitation to an open meeting in February, the consortium felt that circulating the linked document would be the most effective way of gathering support without having to bring people into Manchester for a meeting.

The University of Manchester is the only University in the North West to apply and are competing with other regions to host this centre.
