Cheshire Academy Regional Games Triumph

The 14 strong team from the Cheshire Academy who competed at the North West Special Olympics Rhythmic Gymnastics Games

 

The Cheshire Academy of Integrated Sport and Arts entered a record number of gymnasts at the Special Olympics North West Regional Games held in Crewe recently and returned with a plethora of medals and all round championship titles.

 

The 14 strong team, the largest from the North West, represented South and East Cheshire Special Olympics and competed at a whole range of levels from Level A (wheelchair Rhythmic Gymnastics) up to the advanced Level 2 routines competing at more levels than any other team.

 

At the wheelchair Level A competition, the Cheshire Academy submitted two competitors (Kayleigh Philips and Victoria Perez), winning a total of 8 GOLDS.

 

At the Level B competition which is geared to individuals who have a greater disability or mobility difficulties the Academy submitted 3 competitors (Kate Dawsons, Rachel Perris, Kathryn Ludlum) winning a total of 3 GOLDS.

 

At the level 1 competition at the 12 – 15 age group, Amy Minor, Elizabeth Cooper, Kirsty Robertson & Melanie Williamson achieved 5 gold, 6 silver and three bronze medals between them.

 

In the Under 12 age group Amy Halfpenny collected three golds and a silver and a further gold in the All Round Champion level.

 

In the 16 to 21 age group Claire Poole made a clean sweep of golds as did veteran competitor and team captain  Celia Flegg who competed in the over 30’s age group.

 

At the more advanced level 2 competition Bethany Collina and Tracey Jones competed in the under 16 age group. The Level 2 routines are much more difficult than the level 1 routines and both gymnasts competed in the all round competition with Bethany collecting bronze and Tracey the silver.
