Investment relating to individuals

Fund Name: The Dickie Bird Foundation
Description:
The Dickie Bird Foundation was launched in March 2004, with the aim of helping disadvantaged young people to participate in sport. A big misconception is that the Foundation only offers grants for cricket; it considers grants from all recognised sports.
The vision of the Foundation is to assist young people under 18 years of age to participate, to the best of their ability, in the sport of their choice, irrespective of their social circumstances, culture or ethnicity and to ensure that, in doing so, they improve their chances both inside and outside sport. The principal criteria are:
• The Foundation do not accept applications from schools, groups or associations - only from individual children under 18 years of age at the time the application is received by the Foundation.
• An application will only be considered for a grant if the applicant is unable to raise the necessary finance required as a result of impoverished circumstances.
• Applicants will need to show that their circumstances are such that they are unable to raise the finance necessary through any other means.
• Grants are to help with the cost of clothing and equipment to enable the individual to take part or continue in their chosen sport

Fund Name: SportsAid Grants
Description:
Since 1997, SportsAid has focused on giving awards to youngsters aged 12 to 18, from around 50 able-bodied and 25 disability sports. These athletes compete in national squads and the SportsAid Awards, generally worth around £1,000, help with costs such as travel, training, accommodation, competition fees and equipment.

National and regional panels then establish priority of applications forms based on comments made by the NGBs. Funds are then awarded to successful applicants.
