MORE than 100 girls flocked to Neston Recreation Centre on Sunday to see England netball star Tracey Neville.

The netball ace, who is also footballing stars Gary and Phil Neville’s sister, was joined by the borough’s Mayor Cllr Ted Lloyd at a girls only fitness day.

Tracey is one of Sport England’s Sporting Champions and her visit was organised by Sport England in partnership with Ellesmere Port and Neston Borough Council to help inspire 11 to 16-year-old girls adopt a healthier lifestyle.

She was greeted by over one hundred youngsters who were taking part in a range of sports, fitness and health related activities, including a cultural dance, kangoo jumps, trampolining, cheerleading, tae kwon do and pamper sessions.

Sarah House, the council’s Community Development Officer, said: “We were very lucky to have Tracey and the Mayor with us on Sunday to help celebrate another girls active day. Tracey is a real inspiration to young women and we were excited about having her here to motivate and inspire the participants to get involved in physical activity on a regular basis”.

Tracy Neville added: “I really enjoy the opportunity to come face to face with young people and share my positive experiences in sport. The female participants have had the opportunity to try a range of fantastic activities and I hope that they continue with their chosen sport or fitness activity”.
