Events

There are literally hundreds of events being hosted every year within the partnership - from professional sports games to local community festivals. The CSP makes its own contribution to this by hosting annually an awards evening, sports events that aim to identify young disabled athletes, organising conferences (for example, the Cheshire-wide PE and School sport interface day), delivering a comprehensive coach education programme and running funding workshops for our local clubs. In addition, the CSP contributes to other events - both locally as well as nationally (for example, by speaking at national conferences).

All attention is now focused on the 2010 Cheshire and Warrington Sports Partnership Awards. This prestigious awards dinner will be held on Saturday 13th November at Mere Country & Golf Club, Knutsford. The awards evening is designed to recognise and celebrate those who have made a contribution, in one form or another, to sport.

We've been running the awards evening now for a last few years. If you want to find out about the 2009 Awards evening, click here for more information.

The following awards categories will be selected via a local authority selection process and include:

Club of the Year - a local club that has achieved success in the past 12 months and is committed to developing its coaches, its volunteers and its members and participants

Coach of the Year - a local coach who shows dedication in their work, helping to mentor others and develop self performance

Volunteer of the Year - a volunteer who has achieved success in their volunteering and can show commitment to self improvement and development

Young Volunteer of the Year - a volunteer aged 18 and under whose volunteering activities have made an impact in the local area

Disabled Sports Achiever - (Jim Cochrane award) - a local athlete whose achievements, commitments to performance and development are significant

Special Recognition Award - showing outstanding and exceptional contribution, has overcome challenges or barriers or has made a real impact on the local community

Each of our three local authorities holds their own sporting awards evening. For details on how to nominate to a local authority award please click here. Following these Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Chester will each nominate two nominees per category, and Warrington Council will nominate one. Our selection panel will then identify the overall winner from the five nominees selected by the local authorities - with the winners being announced on the 13th November.

This year we've introduced some new categories and awards that will be selected on a partnership-wide basis. The exact remit is yet to be set for each but the awards will include:

2012 Award - awarded to a person who strives to promote the London 2012 Olympics to help create a local sporting legacy

Innovation Award - the most innovative project that has increased participation in sport and physical activity

Healthy & Active Workplace Award - an organisation who promotes the healthy and active living of its employees

Sports Personality Award - a person whose achievements over the past year have inspired the public

We will release further details on the nomination process and selection criteria for these four awards in early September.

Sponsorship

This is a fantastic opportunity for your company or organisation to support the work of the Partnership. There are a variety of ways you can do this - from headline sponsorship of the event (that the most expensive one) to paying for the drinks reception (that's the cheapest!). If you elect to sponsor a partnership-wide award, as long as you get in touch by the end of August, you could play an active part in the setting of the selection criteria, the judging of the award and, of course, its presentation on the evening. As we hold a raffle during the evening, donations of any form are also welcome.

There are a wide range of benefits associated with sponsorship of an award - including the presentation of the award on the night, the naming of the award category, a table for ten guests with three course meal (we may even throw in some wine), website coverage and inclusion in all press releases. Not to mention the feel good factor you'll get from being associated with the event!

Future events?

You may well have seen the announcements recently, following on from the Conservative Manifesto, regarding the proposed 'Olympic Style School Competition'. We are very excited about this development and await further announcements as to how they may involved the CSP network nationally in eh delivery of their 2012 legacy project. If you want to read some more about what's proposed, download the information leaflet.
