The following outcomes below outline the different topics which are covered during each of the workshops included on our current programme. We are also able to provide other workshops from sports coach UK and Running Sport. Good Practice & Child Protection

  • Identify coaching practice and sport situations that might constitute poor practice and/or abuse
  • Recognise key principles of code of conduct and their application to good coaching practice
  • Recognise truths and myths surrounding child abuse
  • Identify ways of dealing with their own feelings about child abuse
  • Describe what constitutes abuse and identify the indicators
  • Recognise signs and symptoms
  • Identify appropriate action if a child discloses he/she has been abused
  • Identify appropriate action if concerned about the behaviour of another coach or colleague
  • Identify appropriate action if concerned about the behaviour of a parent/carer
  • Review practice that reduces the likelihood of wrongful allegations and of abuse occurring

Protect yourself, the young people you are coaching and your employer by understanding and following good coaching practice. Learn about child abuse and how to handle situations if you have concerns.

Equity in Your Coaching
  • explain what sports equity means and why it is important
  • identify barriers to participation
  • use appropriate language and terminology
  • identify and challenge inequitable behaviour
  • interpret the legal framework that affects coaching
  • identify how they can become more equitable
  • establish where to go for further information

Everyone should have access to sport, regardless of gender, age, race, ability, faith or sexual orientation. As a coach, you have an important role to play in ensuring this happens. The workshop will help you to apply and extend your existing skills to meet the needs of present and potential participants.

EFDS - Including Disabled Pupils in PE

This highly practical course is delivered through a number of interactive workshops.  Group discussions give you the opportunity to raise issues and discuss the problems that arise when teaching a wide range of pupils with very different abilities and needs, within the constraints of the National Curriculum for Physical Education.

  • Open activities - warm up and introductory activities:
  • Total inclusion - warm-up and introductory activities
  • Modified activities - modifications to rules, area, equipment and numbers
  • Parallel activities - ability groupings and different ways of playing the same game
  • Included activities - integrating non disabled pupils in disability sport activities
  • Separate activities - meaningful pathways in sport

Learn new skills and ideas to:  Teach an inclusive PE curriculum,  Provide a positive PE experience, Increase pupils body awareness, offer skill progression, help pupils maximise their potential.

Emergency First Aid

6 hour Emergency first aid course

  • What to do in an emergency
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • First aid for the unconscious casualty
  • First aid for the wounded or bleeding

Training would be carried out over two days (6 contact hours), including actual teaching time and final assessment time.

Equity in your Coaching

This workshop tackles all the frequently asked questions posed by sports teachers, coaches and participants about how to work with disabled sports people.  This includes a whole spectrum of new ideas for inclusion; the workshop will introduce and offer guidance to any coach involved with disabled people in sport, the emphasis being to introduce coaches to the Inclusion Spectrum and effective practice.

Introduction to LTAD
  • Identify and recognise the reasons for adopting LTAD
  • Identify and recognise the concepts and key principles of LTAD
  • Recognise and respond to the implication for coaches and coaching
  • Identify appropriate action to integrate LTAD into their coaching

This theory-based workshop is aimed at coaches to enable them to understand the key concepts of LTAD and what it means to them and their practice.  This workshop can be tailored to suit the needs of the sport or area the audience is from.

A guide to Mentoring Sport Coaches
  • Identify your role as a mentor
  • Develop your mentoring profile
  • Increase the effectiveness of your mentoring relationships by developing practical mentoring skills
  • Design a mentoring programme that best suits the needs of your sport and the level of coaching

Mentoring is a powerful tool in the education and development of sports coaches at all levels.  This workshop will help you as a mentor to support coaches' learning and focus on how learning occurs.

An introduction to Core stability training

  • identify good posture and its importance
  • recognise the value of Basic assessment and stability exercises
  • apply a safe series of prone active hip extension exercises
  • specify when to refer an athlete for professional assessment and guidance

This interactive workshop raises awareness of the importance of core stability which is vital to optimising sports performance, playing longevity and reducing the risk of injury. The emphasis is on outlining how basic postural and core stability assessments can help raise awareness of potential problems relating to power generation from the hip and efficiency from each muscular effort.

FUNdamentals of movement workshop
  • Agility - dynamic stability, starting and stopping, momentum, acceleration, rhythm
  • Balance - establishing a stable core, static stability, exploring centre gravity and base of support
  • Coordination - related to disassociating body parts and the coordination of explosive actions including jumping, throwing, striking and kicking

This practical workshop explores the concepts of Agility, Balance, Co-ordination and speed.  It compliments other coach education resources which may focus on the movement skills of running, hopping, skipping etc.  This workshop assists coaches to observe, analyse and coach good movement patterns within their sessions whether multi skill or sport specific. 

Club for All
  • Building a wider membership base (Players, coaches & officials)
  • Improving eligibility for Lottery Funding
  • Improving involvement and support of local community.

This workshop will help you find out how your club can benefit by welcoming all sectors of the community. You can assess how well you are doing at the moment and what else you could be doing to make your club more accessible to more people.

Developing Junior Clubs
  • List the key factors involved in creating a quality junior club
  • Plan and develop a partnership that meets the needs of young people
  • Identify the types of resources available to support junior clubs

Young people are the future of sport and it is important that they are able to move from sport at school to a more adult environment that is safe, effective and child friendly and that helps them progress in their chosen sport.

How to Coach Children in Sport
  • explain the development of children within sport
  • identify the differences between children and adults
  • develop safe and effective coaching sessions for children

Aimed at everyone working with children in sport, this workshop presents the basic principles of good practice and introduces the concept of long-term athlete development.

How to Coach Disabled People in Sport
  • determine how to include disabled people in sport
  • select appropriate coaching activities
  • create effective coaching environments

  • match their coaching to meet the developmental stage of children and young people
  • plan and deliver coaching sessions to maximise learning and enjoyment
  • follow good practice when coaching children and young people

Discover the needs and motivation of young players. Learn how to deliver effective coaching sessions to meet the level of skill, developmental stage and motivation of each young player.

Coaching Disabled Performers
  • explain when integration and segregation might be most appropriate
  • identify appropriate safety and medical considerations
  • review and extend your knowledge of how to adapt your coaching to the specific needs of disabled performers
  • design and monitor a programme for a disabled player taking part in their sport
  • direct players to appropriate structures for competition and further coaching

Develop your own coaching knowledge and skills to coach disabled players through inclusive and separate coaching sessions. Discover new ways to adapt equipment and identify appropriate safety and medical considerations to meet your players' needs.

Injury Prevention and Management
  • use appropriate strategies to reduce the likelihood of injury
  • assess the severity of an injury or accident and respond appropriately
  • know how to deal with soft tissue injuries
  • assess if a performer is ready to resume training and competition

Learn about why injuries occur and how to prevent them. Find out the best way to deal with them if they do happen and how to help players return to training quickly but safely.

Managing Coaching within Long Term Athlete Development
  • Demonstrate an increased awareness of the theory/practice of LTAD
  • Explain how it can be applied to effect a fundamental and sustainable change to our evolving sports system
  • Understand what is meant by building an "athlete centred" sports system
  • Understand the implications for key partners
