Mentoring

The Cheshire & Warrington Sports Partnership strongly believes that coach mentoring is an essential part of the coach development programme. Mentoring of coaches is crucial to coach development in the partnership because it helps us to:

  • Recognise, reward and support the ongoing professional development of coaches within Cheshire & Warrington
  • Help coaches improve their techniques
  • Provide a positive way of supporting coaches in their roles

Each Governing Body is regularly consulted so that the mentoring programme can fit in with their aims for coach development.

UKCC (UK Coaching Certificate)

What is the UKCC?

The UK Coaching Certificate is a key recommendation by the Coaching Task Force and will be a five-level flexible learning system, developed to build on good practice that already exists within existing coach education structures - and ensure equivalence of qualifications across sport.

The UKCC provides a standard framework for coach education and a UK wide recognised seal of quality coaching but what does it mean for you as a coach?

What does the UKCC mean for Coaches?

  • The creation of nationally recognised standards for coach education will professionalise the role of the coach. Most professional industries have a standard for qualification now coaching does.
  • The UKCC will raise the profile of sports coaching.
  • A UK wide qualification means it is easier for coaches to move between the Home Countries and gain employment as a coach.
  • The transferable elements of core parts of UKCC qualifications mean it will be easier to move between sports.
  • It will be easier to highlight your level of coaching to potential employers.

New Managing Volunteers Qualification – A First For runningsports

If you manage volunteers as part of your role and would you like a qualification to demonstrate your skills and expertise or further your professional development or that of your team then you’ll be interested in a new development from runningsports.

runningsports – the portfolio created and funded by Sport England that provides volunteering resources and support to those working in sport –  in partnership with Volunteering England, has developed a nationally recognised vocational qualification, Certificate in Managing Sports Volunteers, aimed at professionals working with volunteers at a strategic level.

Always focusing on practical tools and techniques, the Certificate in Managing Sports Volunteers is the first runningsports product to combine this approach leading to a qualification, which fits into the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), sitting at Level 3.

Developed by a group of sports practitioners from a variety of organisations including Governing Bodies of Sport (NGBs) and County Sports Partnerships (CSPs), the qualification is divided into four units and incorporates flexible learning approaches to suit differing levels of experience and learning styles. The course is highly practical and learners will be able to apply their learning to their own work situation, with the assessment based on real tasks such as the production of volunteer policies.

The course will take learners through topics including building teams, event organisation, influencing and delegation and developing skills and talent, through a combination of workshops and individual e-learning. All the runningsports tutors delivering the workshops are fully qualified and have experience in, and empathy with, managing paid staff or volunteers.

Phil Collier, Director of runningsports said, “We are really pleased to be launching this new qualification, which has been developed by sports development professionals for sports development professionals. Gaining the Certificate in Managing Sports Volunteers will demonstrate that not just expertise in this important area of work, but practical application as well, enhancing the learner’s CV, and contributing to the growth of volunteering in sport.”
