Higher Education forms an important part of Sport England's vision of getting more people to play more sport. Luckily in our patch we have two great universities - MMU Cheshire and the University of Chester (who have a campus in Warrington), both of whom are key partners in the development of a world leading community sport system locally.

Both our universities link with the Partnership in a variety of ways -

  • running competitive and intramural sporting opportunites, engaging in British Universities College Sports.
  • providing students as volunteers to community sports organisations
  • permitting community use of their sporting facilites -building and pitches
  • running sports events
  • being part of the Government's 'People Places Play' legacy programme by offering both Sport Makers and Sportivate opportunites for their students
  • undertaking research into the success (or otherwuse) of sporting interventions
  • independent monitoring and evaluation of programmes
  • offer of sport science support and testing to local clubs / athletes

Both universities are listed in the 2012 pre-training camps. MMU Cheshire have now teamed up with Cheshire East Council to host athletes from the Republic of Vanuatu for their pre Games training camps in the build up to London 2012. To find out more, click here
