Sporting Background/Interest
My sporting interests are many and my sporting history is varied. On the Football world stage I conceived and initiated the changes approved by FIFA in 1978 in respect of the free kick in the goal area. At the time I was Vice-Chairman latterly Executive President of Manchester City Football Club. I was also partly responsible for the creation of the Champions League in European Football. As a football player I was offered semi-pro terms From 1982-1991. I was vice-chairman of the NWCSR latterly as Vice Chairman to Jim Cochrane.
In Golf I have played international left-handed golf forGreat BritainagainstAustraliaand have some excellent young partners who have recently helped my team to victory in, for example the County Pro-am Tournament. I have played with Nick Price and Bob Charles who have been No 1 at various times.
In cricket my favourite memory is substituting for Clive Lloyd in one his testimonial matches which is not to say I claim to be a comparable cricketer. More recently however, I have turned to umpiring and am now Chairman of the A.C.U. & S inNorth Wales.
In modern Pentathlon I am the senior Vice Present of the MPAGB, having been responsible for the sponsorship of the World Championships atCrystalPalaceand the first British Women's Modern Pentathlon Competitions.
In shooting I am Vice President of the BASC having been its Chairman at the time of Hungerford and am a founding trustee of the Wildlife Habitat Trust.
In my time I have gained success at Table Tennis, Swimming, Rugby Fives, Tennis, Crown Green Bowling, Rugby Union and Horse racing which presently seems unable to decide whether it is a sport or an industry.
