Wider County and Regional Partners

An important element of the work of the CSP is our advocacy work – influencing, information and lobbying a wide range of partners to ensure connectivity of the national and regional agenda to the local ( Cheshire & Warrington) area. This enquires us to liaise with a number of wider county and regional partners a few examples of which are listed below:

Cheshire & Warrington 2012 Steering Group – The CSP is the ‘champion’ for the Cheshire & Warrington Embrace the Games framework. Working with wider county partners including Visitor Chester and Cheshire  and Cheshire and Warrington Economic Alliance , the CSP also links to regional organisations such as the North West Development Agency.

ChaMPS - the public health network for Cheshire and Merseyside primary care trusts, local authorities, NHS trusts and wider organisations. We are working with ChaMPs to build partnerships to develop capacity and capability in order to promote and protect public health and wellbeing. Recently we submitted a funding bid with ChaMPs and Merseyside CSP to the Department of Health innovation fund around sport and physical activity for looked after children in Local Authority care.

North West Workforce Group - This group includes the five North West CSP’s (Merseyside, Cumbria, Lancashire and Greater Sport-Manchester plus ourselves) and partners including Sports Coach UK, the National Skills Academy, SkillsActive and Cumbria University. An example of current activity includes a new coaching bursary scheme, Get Qualified North West, which is being developed to support people who live / work in the NW Region and are 19 years or older to partly fund NGB Level 2 and 3 qualifications across a number of sports.

Regional Clubmark Group – the CSP regularly meets with other organisation in the north west licensed to accredit sports clubs. Clubmark was introduced in 2002 by Sport England to:

  • ensure that accrediting partners apply core common criteria to ensure that consistent good practice and minimum operating standards are delivered through all club development and accreditation schemes.
empower parent(s)/carer(s) when choosing a club for their children.
  • ensure that Clubmark accredited clubs are recognised through a common approach to branding.
  • provide a focus around which all organisations involved in sport can come together to support good practice in sports clubs working with children and young people.

Cheshire & Warrington CSP gained its license earlier in 2009 and has now accredited 2 clubs in Cheshire & Warrington.  One of which is Northwich Multi Sports Club, an inclusive sports club that caters for disabled and non disabled people alike.  It was assessed using the EFDS Clubmark criteria, developed for multi sport and single sport disability clubs, and is not only the second such club nationally to successfully achieve this award but is the first in the North West.
