Sport England’s new strategy was launched on 10 June 2008 and commits Sport England to deliver on a series of demanding targets by 2012/13:
• one million people doing more sport
• a 25% reduction in the number of 16-18 year-olds who drop out of five key sports
• improved talent development systems in at least 25 sports
• a measurable increase in people’s satisfaction with their experience of sport – the first time the organisation has set such a qualitative measure
• a major contribution to the delivery of the five hour sports offer for children and young people.
County sports partnerships provide a critical link between Sport England’s national strategy and local delivery. As a result, Sport England funds Cheshire & Warrington Sports Partnership to provide a set of services to national governing bodies and ourselves. This is known as the ‘core specification; and includes work in areas including coach, club and volunteer development, facilities, children and young people and connecting governing bodies to our local area.
In addition, Sport England funds us directly to administer two programmes on their behalf:
Sport Unlimited - an innovative new youth sports programme which cascades funding to local communities via the county sports partnerships network. It’s targeted at youngsters who may have some interest in sport, but aren’t particularly engaged with community or club sport.
Step-into-Sport – a Leadership and Volunteering scheme aimed at proving opportunities for young people to give their time in community sport
