Sporting Champion Multi Sports Inclusion Project

Macclesfield School Sport Partnership (SSP)

The launch of the above project was recently held at Wilmslow High School, Macclesfield.  The project aims to engage pupils who are not presently accessing OSHL sporting activities by offering them a range of new sports to sample, with a view to potentially opening up extended participation opportunities.

Macclesfield SSP is delighted that the project is being supported by Sporting Champion Sarah Bailey MBE ( 5 times Paralympic Gold medallist ) who gave an inspirational talk during the launch event outlining her “ Playground to Podium “ career pathway.

Sarah concluded her talk with;

“Life’s a journey, follow your dreams …….’

All pupils that have a disability (ranging from physical and learning disabilities to visual and hearing impairments) and are in Secondary Education within the Partnerships Schools were invited to attend the launch and the subsequent club. A taster day will then be held at Poynton High School on the 24th May where participants will be offered a range of activities to sample. This will be followed by weekly sessions focussing on individual activities and “multi-skills” work.

The hope is that once established the club can expand to eventually run at venues in Knutsford, Macclesfield, Poynton and Wilmslow on a weekly basis.

The initial funding for the project has been obtained through “The Big Lottery” and Sport England’s “Sporting Champions “scheme.
