The countdown to the Helsby Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile has begun with less than two weeks to go before residents go the distance for Sport Relief on Sunday 16th March.

Places are filling up fast and Helsby and surrounding area residents should to sign up now to guarantee a place for them and their family at www.sportrelief.com.

Milers will be pulling on their Sport Relief socks and warming up at Helsby Community Sports Club, Chester Road, Helsby and will make their way along the route through the grounds of Helsby Community Sports Club.  Sport Relief 2008 is all about challenging yourself, friends, family and colleagues to do something sporty and raise cash.

Michelle Pickstock, Development Manager at Helsby Community Sports Club said: “As the countdown to the big day begins we’re looking forward to seeing hundreds of local residents going the distance and getting sponsored for Sport Relief.  The 16th March really should be a day to remember as the city pulls together for this fantastic cause.”

Runners at Helsby can enjoy a pre run warm up with Helsby’s answer to Mr Motivator from 10am, before starters orders for the first group of runners at 11am.  There will be bouncy castles and face painting for the children, a chance to meet Mark Eccleston, Silver para Olympic medal champion, a barbeque, and for the parents free massage taster sessions, health screening checks,  and a licensed bar from 12noon.

Milers can choose to do 1, 3 or 6 miles, so can select the distance that is a challenge for them and make sure they get sponsored while they do it.   Last time a staggering 400,000 men, women and children did a Mile for Sport Relief – including Prince William who ran at Sandhurst, giving his royal seal of approval.

Sport Relief harnesses the power and passion of sport to change lives for the better. By doing sport, having fun and raising money, everyone can do good and feel good. Comic Relief spends the money raised to help vulnerable people living incredibly tough lives both at home in the UK and in the world’s poorest countries.

Tune in for a fantastic night of TV entertainment on Friday 14th March.  Sir Alan Sugar is set to boss ten top celebrity candidates in Sport Relief Does the Apprentice, Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly will be hosting a very special edition of Strictly Come Dancing and Jimmy Carr will be keeping the teams in line for a Question of Sport Relief – and much, much more.
