Warrington area. This website also overviews funding opportunities - so we can improve our chances of drawing down national investment streams into our area. To find out more, click here. To improve standards in how we organise sport, please refer to the 'Run Sport' section of the website. And if you want to find out about opportunities to get active, information is included in the 'Play Sport' area. Throughout the year, Sport Cheshire also organise a series of county level events and conferences (see 'Events').
If you'd like to keep tabs on progress, we publish a regular newsletter that goes to over 500 local organisations to keep them informed of local opportunities, investment, intelligence and activity. Sport in Cheshire
We have produced great Olympic and Paralympic athletes Including: Tom James (Rowing), Beth Tweddle (Gymnastics), Shanaze Reade (Cycling, BMX), Adrian Derbyshire (Wheelchair Fencing)
We have top class professional sports clubs including Warrington Wolves (Rugby League) and Cheshire Jets, (British Basketball League)
Ben Foden the current England Rugby Union Full Back grew up in Malpas and played for Chester RUFC as a boy.
Gary Kelsall a Handball coach from Cheshire, won the 2010 UK Children's Coach of the Year at the Sports Coach UK awards, and the 2011 Grass Roots Coach of the Year at the MBNA Northern Sports Awards.
MMU Cheshire East (MMUCE) is an approved 2012 Pre-Games Training Camp and will host Vanuatu, one of 15 Pacific Island nations.
Cheshire contains 1,385 sports businesses, which provide 21,180 jobs and generates an annual turnover of £1.7 billion.
Our community clubs are competing at the highest levels. Chester Triathlon club is the leading club in the North West, Warrington Handball Club has produced England players and Wilmslow Lacrosse club has 10 international players.
